About Us

Friends of Sassafras Creek was established in 1991. We help to protect and enhance the Sassafras Creek Nature Conservation Reserve, in the Dandenong Ranges, by removing invasive weeds and planting native plants. This reserve is part of the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people.

Friends of Sassafras Creek is an active group with enthusiastic members including students, environmental workers, local residents and several retired members of the community. Currently the group has 32 members.

In the spirit of reconciliation, the Friends of Sassafras Creek acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Sassafras Creek Nature Conservation Reserve, the Wurundjeri People, and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
